Essex boys edge Mt. Mansfield 126-125 for D1 title

The Essex High boys edged out Mt. Mansfield Union, 126-125 on Saturday at Burlington High to win the Vermont State Track and Field Division 1 title.

Essex was led by sophomore Henry Farrington's win in the 1,500 (4:10.27) and junior Spencer Towle's victory in the 200 (23.10).

Jasper Reed from Brattleboro Union jumped 23-0 for an all-time state best to win the long jump and he also won the triple jump with 44-8.25.

Zane Russom of Mansfield Union won the javelin with 186-1. 

In D1 girls, St Johnsbury scored 134 points, placing first or second in almost all of the field events, including the pole vault, discus, javelin, triple jump and long jump.

Ella Whitman and Alice Larson went 1-2 for Champlain Valley Union in the 3,000 meters. 

At U-32 High in Montpelier, the U-32 boys dominated, scoring 142 points. The Raiders claimed four of the top five positions in the 800, took the top four spots in the 1,500 and captured the first three spots in the 3,000. The team also won the 4x800 relay.

Abayomi Lowe of Hartford won the boys 200 (23.18) and 400 (50.45).

In D2 girls, Rice Memorial won seven events and piled up 151 points. Sonia John won the 100 (13.12), the 200 (26.42) and the 400 (58.29).

Molly McCreedy from U-32 smashed the all-time Vermont record in the shot put with 45-11.25 and also won the discus at 139-10.

At the Division 3 championship at Green Mountain in Chester, the Bellows Falls Union boys dominated the meet scoring an impressive 154 points. Big points came in the throws with junior Reno Tuttle taking the shot put (46-4.50) and discus (146-6) and teammate Shane Clark claiming the javelin (160-2), while Tuttle was second. Clark also won the pole vault, clearing 12 feet.

Junior Jarret Rock of Oxbow won the Division 3 100 (11.56) and 200 (23.6).

In girls D3 action, Oxbow senior Izzy Giesing won the 200 (26.08), 400 (60.95), 800 (2:25.65) and the long jump (16-4.25).

Thetford Academy senior Meagie Balch won the 1,500 (4:57.20) and 3,000 (10:57.81).

In Division 4 at Green Mountain, Danville senior Riley Fenoff won the 800 (2:00.6), 1,500 (4:23.28) and 3,000 (9:41.45).

Senior Connor Lambert of South Royalton helped guide his team to a D4 state title winning the javelin (148-7), pole vault (11 feet) and the 110 hurdles (17.05) and 300 hurdles (42.85).

Richford senior Jalyn Collins won the javelin (104-6), discus (96-6) and shot put (29-8.25).
